2006 Season

31st March 2006
General
Oil the bats and polish the balls, check the helmet for cracks and head lice,
push the stuffing back in that hole in the pads and empty the mouse droppings
out of the batting gloves, it’s that time of year again, “the start of the
cricket season”. The England team won the ashes and we want to follow in their
footsteps and win our leagues.
Indoor nets have been running since the end of January and those who have
attended have made great improvements, had loads of fun and have been incredibly
motivated and well behaved, so well done to all involved!! Those of you who
haven’t managed to make nets due to other commitments have some catching up to
do but there will be some intensive training from now on. You have been warned!!
Both the Under 12/13s and the Under 14/15s have been entered in two leagues
this year, namely the Bucks League and the Aylesbury and District League and a
fixture list relevant to each age group has been posted on the web site (link on
the home page). Please monitor these carefully as there are bound to be some
changes to fixtures during the season.
Some friendly matches will be organised for younger players if there are
sufficient numbers and details of any such matches will be circulated later.
This year the Club has also formed an alliance with Westcott Cricket Club and
their ground will be used for the Under 14/15 training sessions as well as the
home matches for this age group.
Training
Indoor nets will continue on the following dates
- Friday 31st March (6-7.00pm)
- Friday 7th April (7-8.00pm)
- Friday 21st April (6-7.00pm)
There will be NO NETS on Friday 14th April as this is Good Friday.
Outdoor training will be as follows for the Under 12/13s and ages
below
(at Grendon Underwood sports field)
- First session on Friday 28th April (6.00-7.30pm)
- Second session will switch to Saturdays and the first Saturday session
will be on 6th May (from 9.00-10.30am)
- Training then every Saturday until further notice
Outdoor training for the Under 14/15s will take place during the week
rather than on Saturdays and I will contact the relevant players with specific
dates in due course.
Registration
Under 12s/13s
The main Registration day for the Under 12s and below will be
Friday 28th April, i.e. at the first outdoor training session (if it happens
to be raining that evening Registration will be the following Saturday, i.e. 6th
May and if you cannot make either date please let me have the registration forms
and fees as soon as possible). The fee structure this year has been simplified
to make it more convenient for fee collection.
The details are:
- Under 12s in the main squad, i.e. players likely to play in at
least some matches, a single payment of £25 and £20 if there is a second
child from the same family in the same squad. There will be no separate
match fees this year;
- Under 12s unlikely to play any or more than the occasional game and age
groups below £10 per player.
For new players, I need you to fill out the full set of registration
forms and you may down-load the registration
forms here.
For players who have previously been registered with the club I need
you to fill out the simplified Registration Form which can also be found on the
web site, here.
Registration for the Under 14s has to be done on a similar timescale
as their first match is on 3rd May and you have to be registered to be
selected so please let me have forms and fees as soon as possible. The
registration guidelines are exactly the same as for the Under 12s (see above)
and the fees are as follows:
- Under 14s in the main squad, ie players likely to play in at
least some matches, a single payment of £25 and £20 if there is a second
child from the same family in the same squad. There will be no separate
match fees this year.
- Under 14s who are unlikely to play any or more than the occasional game,
a single payment of £15 per player.
Please let me know if you do not have access to a computer and I can provide
you with a copy of the relevant forms.
Team Selection - Very important
!!!!!!!!
1. Firstly I need each squad player to let me know what their availability is
for the games on the fixture lists. PLEASE DO THIS BY EMAIL to Rod Baker. This will make it easier for me to rotate
the squad if certain players are not available and save me selecting someone who
cannot play. Please keep me updated with any changes in a player’s availability.
2. Team selection will be based on attendance at training as well as attitude
and performance at training and in matches. Every attempt will be made to give
as many players as possible an opportunity to play in matches but the team
managers reserve the right to balance any team selected against the strength of
the opposition.
3. This year I will be emailing the teams for each game along with details of
meeting times and locations. This will save me hours of phone calls each week
but does rely on players to check their emails regularly and it is clearly very
important that parents let me know immediately if a player is not available.
Cricket is not like other sports where you can turn up with extra players, you
need exactly 11 players, no more and no less!!
Thanks and here’s to another successful season.
