18th July Friendly vs Long Marston, Home, Won
For the last game of the season Grendon entertained an inexperienced but very enthusiastic team from Long
Marston.
Long Marston won the toss and elected to bat first. The opening pair batted well with one batsman having to retire at 30 runs and the other making 12 runs. However little resistance was offered by the remaining batsmen and Long Marston reached 83 runs for 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. The Grendon fielding was rather disappointing by their own high standards but was partly offset by a stunning diving catch by the captain Jamie Baker.
The Grendon opening pair of Jamie Baker and Drew Blackburn dominated the opposing bowlers and both batsmen had to retire, Jamie having reached his 31 runs off just 12 balls faced. Tom Cook, Luke Gardiner and Sam Whitbread also batted well and each also had to retire. Grendon finally finished on 190 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets, a very dominating finish to what has been a very successful season.

15th July Under 13 League vs Thame, Away, Won
Grendon visited Thame for what turned out to be the last Under 13 League game and an even more thrilling game than the one against Chalfont St Giles. Grendon won the toss and elected to field. The Thame batsmen built up the runs at a moderate rate but tight bowling and some more excellent
fielding, including two splendid diving catches by Josh Chilman and Luke Gardiner, kept the batsmen under constant pressure. In the end Thame set a target of 102 having lost 6 wickets.
The Grendon openers of Ben Rigby and Drew Blackburn batted very sensibly and put on 50 runs for the first wicket at a rate greater than that required. Further good batting from Dominic Southey (20 runs) with contributions from Baker, Cook, Gardiner and Chilman set the game up for a thrilling finish which went in Grendon's favour on the last ball of the game.
Once again congratulations must go to both teams for an excellent game of cricket and particularly the Grendon batsmen for facing up to a barrage of good bowlers and holding their nerve at crucial stages in the game.

11th July Under 12 Friendly vs Chalfont St Giles, Home, Won
Grendon entertained the only side to beat them in the Under 12 League in a friendly match. Grendon won the toss and elected to field. The Grendon bowlers had some early success but then some big hitting from the opposing batsmen built the foundation of a respectable score. However the Grendon bowlers stuck to their task and were supported by some excellent fielding, especially some excellent catching by Josh Chilman and Dominic Southey. The final total accumulated by Chalfont St Giles was a respectable 108 runs for 7 wickets from the allotted 20 overs.
The Chalfont pace bowlers made an excellent start with three top Grendon batsmen removed for a total of 1 run between them. However, Dominic Southey who played a key anchor role with 29 runs in 20 overs and Drew Blackburn (27 runs), with good support from Josh Chilman (11 runs) and Like Gardiner (7) reached the target score with just two balls to go.
Credit must go to both teams for making this a thrilling game of cricket of a very high standard.

9th July Under 12 Friendly vs Dinton, Home, Won
Grendon entertained an inexperienced Dinton side in a friendly match on yet another cold and dull Friday evening. Grendon won the toss and elected to bat. The opening pair of Ben Rigby and Jamie Baker dominated the bowling and quickly piled on the runs with Jamie having to retire when he had made an excellent 30 runs. Ben Rigby was caught out just short of the retirement limit on 28 runs but Tom Cook (24 runs), Dominic Southey (18 runs) and Josh Chilman (16 runs) continued the run chase. At the end of the allotted overs Grendon had reached 146 runs for 2 wickets.
The Grendon bowlers picked up an early wicket and then there followed a good stand from the next two Dinton batsmen. However some tight and varied bowling from Grendon captured two further wickets and then the rest of the Dinton batsmen offered little resistance as they were bowled out for 79 runs.

27th June Under 13 League vs Great Kimble, Away, Won
Grendon visited the pleasant ground of Great Kimble for the first time for their latest Under 13 league game. Grendon won the toss and elected to bat. Jamie Baker and Ben Rigby opened the innings and made a solid start on a wicket that was variable in pace and bounce before Ben dragged a wide ball onto his stumps to be bowled. Further wickets fell and for a moment it looked like a collapse was about to take place. However Baker continued to play well and made 21 before being caught at square leg. Dominic Southey who had supported Jamie well went on to make a fine 38 not out and he himself was well supported by Luke Gardiner in particular (16 runs) as well as Drew Blackburn and Thomas Cammegh. A creditable score of 102 for 7 wickets was accumulated.
When the Kimble batsmen started their innings the Grendon bowlers made an excellent start with Josh Chilman taking two wickets in his first over. Wickets fell at regular intervals but some of the Great Kimble batsmen offered good resistance before themselves falling to the varied Grendon bowling attack. In the end Grendon won by 62 runs as Great Kimble were bowled out for 40 runs.

20th June, Under 13 Friendly vs Buckingham, Home, Won
Grendon entertained an inexperienced Buckingham side and as both teams only had 10 players a game of pairs cricket was held. Grendon batted first and made a strong start with the first
pair, Dominic Southey and Tom Cook putting on 50 runs in the first four overs.
Thomas Cammegh and Luke Gardiner continued the good start with Luke making 20 and Thomas 12, although each was out once. The next pair of Chris Beckerleg and Ben Gold managed to keep their wickets intact and added a further 20 runs. The next pair of Josh Chilman and Drew Blackburn scored freely with Josh adding a further 22 runs to the total. The last pair of Jamie Baker and Ben Rigby further added to the now massive total and scored nearly sixty runs from the last four overs, with Jamie making 25 and Ben 21. The final Grendon total was 389, the highest pairs total in the short history of the Club.
The Buckingham batsmen struggled against some accurate Grendon bowling, with only one reaching double figures, and completed their innings with a net score of 199. All the Grendon bowlers excelled but Luke Gardiner with 3 wickets for 0 runs and Thomas Cammegh with 3 wickets for 13 runs stood out.

18th June, Under 12 League vs Penn & Tylers, Away, Won
Grendon visited the beautiful ground of Penn & Tylers Green for the last Under 12 match of the season on a dull, cold and windy Friday evening. Having won the toss Grendon elected to field and restricted the opposing batsmen to 81 runs for 8. This was despite some poor fielding, probably not helped by the cold wind.
The batting performance was also below par and it looked at one time as Grendon stood no chance of reaching the opposition target. However both Rigby (30 retired) and Southey (12) batted well and increased the scoring rate. It was then left to Thomas Cammegh and Drew Blackburn to hit the last few runs with one over to spare.

11th June, Under 13 vs Chearsley, Away, Won
Grendon visited the pleasant ground of Chearsley on Friday evening and having won the toss decided to bat. Jamie Baker and Sam Whitbread opened the batting and scored at a respectable rate despite some good fast bowling from the Chearsley opening bowlers. They took the score to 25 before the first wicket fell when Sam Whitbread was bowled. Tom Cook then joined Jamie Baker at the wicket and they both excelled with some fine stoke play and good running. Baker was then bowled for 24 and Dominic Southey joined Tom Cook at the wicket for what turned out to be a thrilling partnership. Both players scored freely and the running between the wickets was excellent. However Southey was run out in the last over and this brought Ben Rigby to the wicket. Meanwhile Tom Cook took his score to a splendid 50 not out with a fine pull to the leg side boundary.
Chearsley then faced some splendid bowling from Grendon and wickets started to fall at regular intervals. Chilman, Blackburn and Cook both picked up two wickets apiece with others falling to Gardiner and Dan Whitbread.

31st May Under 13 vs Bledlow, Away, Lost
Grendon visited Bledlow on the Bank Holiday Monday in glorious sunshine to take part in their first Under 13 Aylesbury and District League game. Despite missing some key players they put on an excellent display in a thrilling match which kept the spectators on the edge of their seats until the very last ball.
Grendon won the toss and asked the home side to bat. Rigby and Chilman bowled well against some strong batsmen but the rest of the bowlers faired less well. One of the Bledlow batsmen in particular was in fine form with some impressive and powerful hitting. Grendon did well to restrict him and limit the home side score to a total of 85 for the loss of 6 wickets.
The Grendon opening partnership of Ben Rigby and Tom Cook made an impressive start and completed the first ever 50 run partnership for the team. Ben Rigby was bowled just as he was trying to accelerate the scoring rate and Grendon found themselves needing 18 runs from the last three 8 ball overs. Josh Chilman and Drew Blackburn had no time to settle and both scored three before being caught and run
out respectively. Some tight bowling from the Bledlow team meant that six runs were needed from the last eight balls. Again tight bowling made the task difficult for the Grendon batsmen and it all came down to Grendon needing three runs from the last ball with Jamie Baker having just come to the wicket. A good hit resulted in two runs but left Grendon just one run short in a thrilling match.
Credit goes to both teams for an excellent and entertaining match but especially to the Grendon side who were all younger and less experienced; a good sign for the future if they can put in performances like this.

All bowlers took at least one wicket and were well supported by some excellent fielding.
Jamie Baker and Sam Whitbread put on 23 runs for the first wicket before Sam was bowled. Tom Cook joined Jamie Baker at the crease and both batted superbly to knock off the remaining runs to complete an impressive win by nine wickets with over seven overs to spare.

28th May Under 12 vs Chalfont St Giles, Away, Lost
Chalfont St Giles won the toss and put Grendon into bat. Some tight bowling
from the home side made batting difficult for the Grendon players who never
really looked like making a big score. Rigby made an impressive 22 runs but an
unnecessary run out and the fall of other early wickets but further pressure on
the batting team. Grendon completed their innings with a total of 70 runs for
the loss of 9 wickets and thoughts of what might have been.
The Grendon team came out fired up to defend their meager total and made an
excellent start with Thomas Cammagh taking two wickets in his second over. Luke
Gardiner also bowled well but then two strong batsmen from Chalfont St Giles
consolidated the innings and raced towards the Grendon total. One more wicket
fell but too late to avoid a defeat by 6 wickets.

The Under 12's opened their league fixtures with a home match against Gerrards Cross on a glorious English summers day. Grendon won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. Some good bowling from Grendon led to the fall of three early wickets but the Gerrards Cross middle order consolidated their innings with two batsmen in particular making the Grendon bowlers work hard. However Grendon managed to restrict the visitors to a total of 85 runs for the loss of five wickets.
In reply Grendon scored runs freely but just like the visitors lost three early wickets due to some good bowling. Hence once again it was left to the middle order batsmen to consolidate the innings. Chilman with 26 and Cook with 14 runs batted in a very controlled and mature manner with a mixture of hard hitting and quick singles. However as often happens with good partnerships, both players were out quite close together and this brought Blackburn and Whitbread to the wicket. They too batted very sensibly and Blackburn in particular impressed with some excellent cover drives including a four that sealed victory with one over to spare and five wickets in hand.
Congratulations go to both teams for what was both a thrilling and close game of cricket.

The Under 12 team started their season with an away visit to Chesham on a
dark, cold and gloomy evening. Having won the toss Grendon decided to ask
Chesham to bat and started with a flourish taking four Chesham wickets in
the first four overs, two apiece for Thomas Cammeigh and Sian Best. The
Chesham middle order consolidated their innings to some extent but
persistent bowling from the Grendon players, including wickets for Dan
Whitbread and Jamie Baker, well taken catches by Tom Cook and Drew Blackburn
and a run out by Dominic Southey on the last ball of the innings restricted
the home team to a score of 60 for the loss of seven wickets.
In response Grendon's opening batsmen put on a solid opening partnership and
scored 23 valuable runs before Ben Rigby was bowled. Dominic Southey joined
Jamie Baker and the pair looked set to make a high scoring partnership
before Jamie Baker was run out. Tight bowling by Chesham made life difficult
for the Grendon batsmen but a patient knock by Southey with good support
from Thomas Cammeigh, Tom Cook and Dan Whitbread saw the visitors overhaul
the home side score with five overs to spare for the loss of four wickets.
